RSF will fund 6 collaborative projects with Japanese partners

The Russian Science Foundation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF/AFFRCS) selected the winners of their joint call for proposals that was conducted by the partners for the second time. The scientists in all research fields by the RSF classifier could submit their proposals targeting the solutions for 5 research problems that had been agreed with the Japanese funding partner.

Based on the results of the independent review of applications by both parties, it was agreed to fund 6 bilateral projects targeting 3 research problems: biotechnology, animal health, plant pests and diseases.

The Russian research teams awarded represent Federal Research Center “Fundamentals of Biotechnology” RAS (Moscow), Kazan Federal University (Tatarstan), Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (Novosibirsk Region), Kazan Research Center of RAS (Tatarstan), All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Protection (St. Petersburg) and All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (Moscow).

The agreement about launching this call was reached during the meeting of RSF Director General Alexander Khlunov and Director-General for Technological Affairs, Minister's Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF/AFFRCS) Masamichi Saigo in December 2016.

Since 2017, RSF and MAFF have supported in total 11 bilateral projects.

The partners plan to publish the next call for proposals for projects with funding in FY 2021-2023 in early 2021.
